EMPOWERING WOMEN IN BURKINA FASO
The project "Empowering women in vulnerable sectors of Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso" funded by the city of Donostia ends. Achieving the 50 women empowerment of the sector 27 in Ouagadougou by developing production and processing activities generating income to help their families and communities out of structural poverty in which they are, and ensure their safety food in a sustainable manner.
The project started in January 2011 has achieved 100% the expected results outlined in its origins:
- 50 women's empowerment in the sector 27 subject of the project, through education and training to contribute to their families and communities. This education and training has been prepared by conducting functional literacy classes where they have worked practical aspects of horticulture, processing of local products, sexual health and reproductive rights of women and environmental conservation. And there has also been training and training for strengthening the capacities of the 50 women among them are, training in horticultural techniques, training in food processing and training in administrative and financial management, module essential for the smooth running of income generating activities that arise from the project.
- The 50 women in the sector 27 has infrastructure and means of production and processing of local products, for which he has built a processing unit of local produce in the land given by the council to the local partner's Saisonnière and are also supplied materials and equipment for the development of productive activities, such as seeds, plants, soil, sand, farm tools, ovens, kitchen utensils, materials processing, packaging, labeling and maintenance products. Also, it has acquired a grain mill in addition to helping relieve the workload of women beneficiaries by facilitating their participation in literacy activities, training and production, also serves as a tool to generate income to strengthen the autonomy of project.
- The 50 women from the 27 use the knowledge gained in the process of empowerment in vegetable production and processing products and start with your marketing, generating income for their families and communities.
- The population, especially the male, sector 27, is concienciada the need for active participation of women in community development, and sensitized on the problems of malnutrition and its consequences. This awareness and sensitivity has been achieved by conducting awareness sessions on malnutrition and by performing plays related to gender inequalities. This progress in the female empowerment of women personally and economically, we can analyze the potential of women, and effective skills and finding themselves out of real situations of structural poverty.
We understand that this process of support and management is the way to the leadership of women's organizations and gender equality.
